Mendelson
Richard Mendelson, a wine law attorney, sculptor, and artist, and his wife Marilyn Knight-Mendelson, a native Australian who teaches English as a second language to vineyard workers in the Napa Valley, met in Burgundy France in 1977 and have lived around vineyards and wine ever since. After stints in France and Australia, they moved to the Napa valley in 1986 and established the winery. The Mendelson family, originally from the Ukraine, now honors Richard’s grandfather Morris with their recreated Old World dessert wines.
Mendelson Wines, which include Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir, are hand-crafted gems, produced in small-lots from the finest California vineyards. The goal of winemaker Charles Hendricks is to produce ultra-premium wines that reflect terroir. Fermentation and aging take place in one of Napa’s oldest stone wineries, dating from 1878. Richard creates the original artwork that adorns each bottle of Mendelson wine.
